Purnell’s Sausage began in Momma Clara Purnell’s kitchen in Tennessee, where Daddy “Old Folks” Purnell crafted his own whole-hog sausage in 1932. Using only the choicest cuts and a perfect blend of sage, salt, pepper, and other “Gooo-od” spices, his sausage became a hit. What started as a homemade lunchbox favorite turned into a thriving family business in 1944, when “Old Folks” left the railroad to focus on his passion. With Momma sewing sausage bags and neighbors clamoring for more, the Purnells built a legacy of making old-fashioned country sausage that’s simply “Gooo-od!”
